Airbag Module Reset

Filing an insurance claim is often a process that people do not think about until they are in a situation that requires it after an accident. The trouble is that this time is incredibly hectic and trying. However, all insurance claims follow the same basic steps outlined below

First, the claim has to be filed. This can be done by either party in an accident. Next, the car’s damage will need to be estimated. This is done in several ways. A trained inspector sometimes comes to your home to see the vehicle, or you may have to bring the vehicle to a repair shop approved by the insurance company. Contact your insurance company after the accident, and they will walk you through the steps necessary for damage estimates.

Follow the damage estimates and inspection, repairs to the vehicle will be made unless the vehicle is deemed a total loss. The insurance company will cover the cost of fixing the vehicle. This process can vary from mailing you a check to sending a check to the repair shop, so be sure to check the policy of the insurance company you are working with. Where the cost of repairing the damage exceeds the value of the vehicle, the insurance company will deem the vehicle a total loss and cut you a check for the value of the vehicle plus tax.

If your airbag light is on after the accident, an airbag module reset is required. During an impact, the airbag module is activated, and hard codes and crash data are then stored in the module.
