If your airbags have deployed, then you might think that they are now useless, and you need to throw it out and pay hundreds of dollars for a new one. Before you do that, however, consider doing an SRS airbag module reset instead. What is an SRS airbag module reset, you may ask? An SRS airbag is also referred to as an Electronic Crash Unit or Airbag Controller. It is a computer that can be found in all vehicles made after 1996, and it controls many things in your car, like the airbags and seatbelts. During an accident or crash, it talks with the sensors in your vehicle and decides if it needs to activate airbags and which ones if it does need to.

When airbags are deployed, it usually makes the module useless, but if you are wondering if you need to replace the entire module because the airbags deployed, the answer is Yes. 1. When you send back my air bag module after you reset it, will my air bag light that’s flashing, will it stop flashing or do I need someone to remove 51 code?

    1. Hey Jaime! After your SRS Airbag Module has been reset, it’s usually a simple “plug-n-play”. Some vehicles may require you to cycle the ignition to complete the reset. You can do this by the following procedure:

Ignition on, erase any DTC codes with an OBD2 Scanner, ignition off, wait 30 seconds, ignition on, erase any DTCs again, ignition off for 30 seconds, then start the car).

Simply make sure all blown seat belts, airbags, etc., are repaired/replaced, prior to re-installing the Airbag Module. If you have any further questions, reach out to our team (via call, text, or email), and we’ll be more than happy to assist you!
