Vehicle Airbag Module, EDR & Black Box Decoding
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/1"][vc_column_text]
Safety Restore provides assistance to law enforcement & educational institutions for SRS airbag module & black box decoding services. An airbag module is an airbag systems controller that stores crash data in an event of a collision. Also known as the black box, or EDR, this airbag module needs to be removed from the vehicle and connected to an external decoding system to obtain all information. Such operation calls for knowledgeable and experienced programmers and engineers. Safety Restore has been the #1 post-accident restoration company since 2013, constantly evolving and revolutionizing the industry. From offering SRS airbag module reset services to seat belt repairs and now crash & black box investigations. Becuase of the nature of the business, this service is only available to law enforcement and accredited educational institutions. All other services such as SRS airbag module reset and seat belt repair after accident are available to everyone.

What are "EDR" black boxes?
[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image="31" alignment="center" border_color="grey" img_link_target="_self"][vc_column_text]
EDR's are Event Data Recorders, which are primarily black boxes in cars responsible for crash recordings. These computers are activated by an actual collision or crash. These recordings can provide vital information during an investigation such as:
- Vehicle's speed prior to collision
- Change – including maximum change – in forward crash speed
- Time when the maximum change in forward crash speed occurred
- Accelerator pedal velocity/pressure
- Brake application
- Ignition cycle
- Occupant seat belt (wearing or not)
- Airbag warning lights status
- Steering/Driver airbag deployment time
- Front passenger’s front air bag deployment time
- Crash events counted
- Start of EDR and completed recording tasks.
Newer vehicles may have advanced EDR's, recording data such as:
- Multi-direction acceleration
- Forward or reverse acceleration
- Engine speed
- Driver steering-wheel input
- All seat belt status
- Engagement of electronic stability control system
- Antilock brake system activity
- All side air bag deployment times
- Seat track positions
- Occupant size and position
NHTSA (National Highbway Traffic Safety Administration) has set regulations in place and various proposals to standarizing EDR's in vehicles. To learn more, visit
