Ford Motor Company used the nameplate Ford Ranger for three different lines of vehicles. The name was introduced in the year 1958 when the Edsel model range placed the Edsel Ranger as its base trim level. Between the years 1965 and 1981, Ranger represented a variety of Ford F-Series trim packages—performing as a mid to top-level trim. In 1983, the name was applicable to a new compact pickup truck that took the place of the Ford Courier in North America. The replacement of the name Courier with Ranger also happened globally and, by 2006, all compact trucks were entitled, Ranger.

The Ranger was discontinued in both the U.S. and Canada in the year 2011. That same year, production of the mid-size Ford Ranger commenced in other countries, but not Canada or the U.S. Only in 2018 was production revived once again in those countries—now as the Ranger T6.
