Ford Cortina Seat Belt
The Ford Cortina, also known as the Ford Consul Cortina and related to the Ford Capri, is a large family car that was manufactured by Ford of Britain from 1962 until 1982. Within its 20-year lifespan, it became the United Kingdom’s best-selling automobile of the 70s. The Ford Cortina went through several tweaks of its outward appearance and was produced in five generations—Mark I through Mark V. From the year 1970 and onward, it was almost identical in appearance to Ford of Germany’s Taunus—a conscious strategy to try unifying Ford’s European operations. In 1976, when the revised Taunus was introduced to the automotive market, it was exactly the same as the Ford Cortina.

The layout of the Ford Cortina is front-engine, rear-wheel drive. Interesting to point out is the reasoning behind its name. The Ford Cortina’s name was derived from the site of the 1956 Winter Olympics—the Italian ski resort “Cortina d’Ampezzo. As a matter of fact, several Ford Cortina cars were driven down the Cortina Olympic bobsled run as a publicity stunt.

The first Ford Cortina model, as already mentioned, was the Cortina Mark I. It was offered in a couple of different body styles—a 2/4-door saloon and a 5-door estate. The powertrain of the vehicle is made up of different engines, including the 1.2 L Kent I4, the 1.5 L Kent I4, and the 1.6 L Twin-Cam I4. The vehicle can be found in two different transmission options—a 4-speed manual and a 3-speed automatic.

Because of the popularity of the Ford Cortina in its day, prices of the vehicle today can reach up to tens of thousands of dollars. If you are lucky to own this vehicle yourself, you are probably doing everything in your power to preserve it. One way to continue preserving the life of your Cortina is to get Ford Cortina seat belt repair if your seat belts are frayed, torn, or simply worn out. If you haven’t already done that in your vehicle, a great company to turn to for Ford Cortina seat belt repair is Safety Restore.
