About Safety Restore Seat Belt Company

Safety Restore was incorporated nationally in 2013 but operated long before that. It started as a seat belt repair company, working on locked and blown seat belts after the accident and then expanded to repairing retractors that are no longer working. A common issue that arose with seat belt repairs is frayed seat belt webbing. Lots of seat belts came in with dirty fabric, classic cars with aged material, and even dog chewed seat belts! It was a safety standard to replace all stretched, frayed, old or dog chewed seat belts. All standard colors and patterns of black, tan, and gray were stocked in 3 panels, 5 panels, and 7 panels. Polyester FMVSS webbing compatible with all seat belt types! Then, Safety Restore manufacturer had some leftover stock of Ferrari Red seat belts that were picked up and offered to some customers for a limited time. It was sold out! More red seat belt webbing was restocked and Safety Restore quickly realized that there was a demand for custom color seat belts! Yellow and red being the most popular color. Years down the road, you can now choose not only from red or yellow seat belt colors but dozens more! Here are just a few more images from @safetyrestore Instagram:

Seat belts have a long history, and it is continued today with bright, vibrant colors, such as yellow seat belt webbing. The sensational actor James Dean died in a two-vehicle accident in California’s desert 1955. Experts believe he would have walked away from this car accident had he been wearing a seat belt. After this, the United States was catapulted into a national and international conversation about the necessity of seat belts. At the time, American car manufacturers Ford and Nash only offered seat belts as safety options. Swedish Saab was the first manufacturer to make the seat belt standard on all of their vehicles.

That same year, Volvo began making seat belts standard on all of their newer vehicles. Volvo not only advocated for the safety of seat belts, but did a substantial amount of independent testing to guarantee their claims of safety. It was not until 1959 that the 3-point modern seat belt was created by Swedish engineer Nils Bohlin for Volvo. Prior of this period, only a 2-point seat belt was used which rested across the abdomen of drivers and passengers. Bohlin, a former plane engineer, wanted to create a seat belt similar to the ones used in planes. The third point harness across the torso was added to protect drivers against sudden deceleration that occurs at time of impact.

The United States did not begin requiring seat belts on new cars until 1968. By then, the evidence showing seat belt safety was indisputable. Today, seat belts are not only standard, but there has been a considerable amount of education to promote seat belt use. Still, the CDC estimates that 1 out of 7 individuals do not use seat belts while driving or being driven. Safety Restore thinks this number is too high, and continues to promote seat belts, such as the yellow seat belts, in order to ensure the tradition and safety of seat belt use continues.
