With something as front and center as the instrument cluster, it\u2019s pretty crazy that many people don\u2019t know more about it other than the fact that it shows their speed while driving. Some individuals notice that certain buttons light up at times, but they do not even know what these lights represent or how to get rid of them. If they can\u2019t figure out some of these noticeable problems, it makes you wonder what else in their vehicles they are ignoring or oblivious to.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

If you are one of these people, perhaps this article will help. Below I will describe three different lights that can turn on in a dash, and what they symbolize. It is important to know what these different things mean because you don\u2019t want to end up with a speedometer not working<\/a>\u2014and jeopardize your safety because of it! Before I go into the list, I\u2019ll leave you with one suggestion: if you have a speedometer not working, get it repaired immediately!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

One light that can turn on in the dash looks like a genie bottle. When this light is illuminated, it means that the engine is running low on oil, or there is a problem with the oil pressure system in the vehicle. As you already probably know, keeping the oil at appropriate levels is crucial for the overall maintenance and longevity of a vehicle.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Another light that can be illuminated looks like a yellow submarine. This is the check engine light, and it can turn on for several different reasons. It could mean that the oxygen sensor needs to be replaced, that the catalytic converter has gone bad, that the gas cap is loose, damaged, or missing, that the Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF) needs to be replaced, or that the vehicle needs new plug wires or spark plugs. All are things to be concerned about and reasons to have your car checked out by a mechanic.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

A third light that you may notice on your dash is a yellow exclamation point inside of a fancy letter \u201cU.\u201d If you see this, it is the tire pressure warning light. This is your car\u2019s way of telling you that the pressure in one (or more) or your tires is low and it needs to be attended to. You don\u2019t want to drive around with unequal tire pressure, as it can screw up your car\u2019s alignment and impose on your safety while driving.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

So if you notice any of these lights turning on, you will know the cause behind them.
